Using this tool

Compare text digests or check test vectors.

Example

Choose SHA-256 and hex; the digest is computed over UTF-8 text.

Example action and settings

Action: Calculate hash
Algorithm: SHA-256
Output encoding: Hexadecimal

Scope and limitations

  • At most one million characters; unpaired surrogates are rejected.

Common mistakes

  • Hashing is not encryption or a password-storage scheme. MD5/SHA-1 are compatibility options; Keccak-512 is not SHA3-512.
